This past weekend we celebrated Labor Day with lots of fun activities, including eating, drinking and outdoor activities. It was a time to enjoy our families while eating until we could not eat anymore. Sometimes we forget that with the abundance of food here in the US that there are children around the world that do not have enough to eat every day. This blog is about Compassion International where I am a child advocate, and my goal is to help these children to break this cycle of poverty, to be able to support their families when they grow up.
The reason for my new blog is to bring awareness to Compassion and the needs of these children. Can I ask you to take a few minutes from your busy schedule and check out some of the children waiting for a sponsor? For as little as $38 per month you can impact the life of a child, their family and their community. (WARNING: once you see these sweet, sweet children you will want to help them all. It’s very addictive.)
Almost four years ago, I decided that I could find $38 a month in my budget to sponsor a child “Maria”, I was so excited. I have enjoyed each of the letters that I have received from Maria, and learning more about her, and her family. Like I said, it becomes addictive, and before I knew it I was up to 4 children, three from Nicaragua, and 1 from Honduras. (Girls, since I have 5 sons). One of the girls, Michell graduated from the program in July this year, so I was happy to find another girl to sponsor, Elizabeth, who is from Honduras. Central America is my passion for Compassion, but all of the areas around the world are important as well.
Just take a few minutes to look at the children, and say a little pray for them, for God to find sponsors for them, and that they continue to grow in their faith of Jesus. Let God help you decide if you are able to find a child to affect your life. You will receive more than you can imagine.
For those with small children, take the opportunity to take to your children about other children living in poverty. Compassion has a lot of great information to help you explain it to them. Several children I have seen, pick a child to sponsor instead of getting a birthday present. They can find a child with the same birthday, same age, or similar interests.
Look into your heart and see if you have the Compassion to sponsor one of these children. One you pick one of these sweet, sweet children please let me know, I look forward to seeing more of these sweet children sponsored.
Thank you,
Lisa
