Honduras Trip Blog – Countdown – 8 days and counting

Its been a while since I’m posted on my blog, but over the next couple of weeks, I am going to be so excited to be able to share with you all my fun and excitement as I travel to Honduras with other Compassion Sponsors. I will get to meet my two sponsored girls, Sharon & Elizabeth and Kener David, a young boy that the Sunday School children at my church sponsor.

I will be heading to Honduras on Saturday, February 1, 2014 and returning back to the states on Saturday, February 8th.  I will get to meet the others who will be traveling to Honduras in Miami as we gather to fly down.  We have already started to talk through FaceBook to get to know each other, and to get answers to our questions.  Compassion has these trips so organized that they really do not leave much to wonder or question.

Members of St. Peter Lutheran are sending gifts for Kener David, and his family, and also for the Compassion Centers that I will be visiting while there.  I have some friends on OurCompassion.org, a social media site where other Compassion sponsors talk and share ideas,  I invited those who have sponsor children in Honduras to send gifts with me for their sponsor children.  They all sent some additional gifts for the centers we will be visiting.  I have two large suitcases packed with toys and clothing and such for the children, families and the centers.  I will look like I am moving to Honduras with all the suitcases.  I have at least two to check, and two carryon’s (the small one with my clothes) and my camera and Netbook.   I may have to add a third one to check, and the maximum weight is 70 lbs each, and I think I can do that, but don’t want to go over.

It is late Thursday, and we will be leaving in 1 week and 1 day!  I am getting so excited and can not wait.  I need to stop shopping, but I can’t help myself.  I had a coupon for Mardel’s for 40% off on Martin Luther King Jr Day, and I found a great Children’s Spanish Bible for Kener David, it was $24.99, but with the coupon I only paid $14.99.  David is 8 years old, and it was hard to find a Children’s Spanish Bible, even though I live in Texas.  I had purchased the girls a Bible each back at Christmas from Lifeway.

Maybe next time someone from my family could go with me, but I am excited to get to meet and spend time with other Christians, and Compassion sponsors.  My husband with be glad when the trip is over, as there are suitcases all over, and as I find more good buys, I keep adding, and adding, and adding.

I hope to post at least each day of the trip, and post pictures, depending on how well the internet connection is at the hotels in Honduras. When I get back on the 8th, if you see me, you can almost guarantee, I will have lots of pictures and stories to tell!

If you would like to sponsor a child with Compassion, go to Compassion.com.

Until next time, Lisa!
