Compassion International at points has a Corporate sponsor a block of children. Sometimes they are old children, and sometime from a certain country. Sometimes just a miscellaneous group of children. Many times there are not individuals behind these sponsorships, and Compassion encourages its sponsors to write to the children and encourage them. This is where Correspondent sponsors come in handy.

sponsors are usually current sponsors who wish to write and encourage more children, however, they cannot financially support more. This is where the Correspondents and Compassion work together. Children are assigned to correspondents who agree to write to the children at least two times a year. Many write to the children monthly.

In addition to my financial sponsorships, I am a currently a correspondent for 6more children around the world. I write to children in the Nicaragua, Honduras, Philippines, Rwanda, Haiti, Dominic Republic, and Kenya.
I love to receive the letters to see how they celebrate the different holidays, and how they respond to disasters. One young lady, Fenise, I have been writing to in Haiti was one of my correspondents when they had the hurricane hit the island. I was happy she was safe, but she talked about others she knew that lost family or friends. She writes in French, so glad someone translates into English for me.
Some of the children learn to write in English. My young man in the Philippines, Rogelio, wrote a letter to me in English, and when he got the end of a line, and was in the middle of a word, he just put a dash (-) and continued on the next line. Mostly he writes in his native language, and it is translated into English for me.
Sometimes a sponsor wants to financially support a child, but does not have the time to write the child, so they can allow another sponsor to write to the child.
I am so glad to be a part of this part of Compassion, which helps encourage more children.
Several of the children I have corresponded with have aged-out of the program, or have moved away. I miss them all, and pray for them with all the current children.
