Day 6….Comfort Quilts

I love to sew, and after making my mom a quilt, my sister, my niece, my nephew, my husband and other quilts, I still wanted to make some to make a difference in my community.

Since I was having so much fun quilting, I decided last Christmas to make some quilts to give to a local nursing home for some seniors that did not have any family.  Here are a couple of the quilts I made in December.

I work at a Family Practice, and several of our nurses work at nursing homes part-time. One of the nurses volunteered to take the quilts to the residents.  She gave them to those who did not have family and needed a little extra hug, AKA a quilt.

I decided to make at least 12 quilts for the nursing home over the year.

I was bring the quilts to work for the nurse to take, and a lady from one of the Hospice locations, saw the quilts and said that she knew a lady was always cold, and would love to have a quilt.  She asked if I would make one for her.  I later gave her a quilt to take the lady on hospice. She said the elderly lady was so excited to receive the quilt.  That is payment enough for the quilts.

They are not fancy, they are not expensive, many times they are made from extra fabric I have laying around, or that I was able to get at a thrift store, or on clearance at a store.    They are smaller, lap size quilts.  Maybe 40″ wide by 50″/60″ long.  Depended on the size of blocks and how they went together.

I finished some blocks that had been gifted to me into a quilt.   I had squared them up, and put them together.  They made a great quilt for a gentleman at the nursing home.

Made with blocks gifted.

Below are a some of the other quilts I have made over the past year for the nursing home.

I love to quilt and I know there are lot of people and organizations that love to receive quilts.

Until tomorrow…
