During 2020 we will be doing blocks from the “One Hundred and one Patchwork Patterns” book by Ruby Short McKim. The book was published in 1931, and my husband’s maternal Grandmother learned to quilt from this book. These blocks are done in her honor.
The first block for February is PinWheels, or called “Flutter Wheels”. It is also using Half Square Triangles (HST). The HST are finished at 2″. You could use 9 different Wheels for a completely different look.
You can make is all coordinating or go scrappy and use 5 different pieces of fabric for the wheels. This block would be great for using up a lot of scraps, or a charm back for coordinating colors.
The original instructions were for 18” finished block, using triangle templates for the pieces. Our block will finish at 12”.
