Baby Quilt – Disappearing 9-patch

A co-worker, Alyssia at work is expecting her fourth baby, a little girl, and I wanted to make her something special.  I found in my stash a Charm pack of “Sundrops“, and some white charm squares. Charm packs are sets of 5” squares, using all the fabric in a collection.

The thread and batting were given to me by Auriful and Hobbs Batting.

I love the disappearing 9-patch blocks, and these made beautiful blocks.  I added white sashing to make the quilt a little larger. The white sashing strips were cut using my new Accuquilt GO! strip cutter that was given to me by Accuguilt. It made the strips so straight and quick to make.

I used some Hobbs wool batting that was given me, and Aurifil Color Builder, Pink Land Iguana I received from Auriful,  to piece and to quilt. I used the darkest (#2530) for the back quilting and the lightest (#2410) to piece and to quilt the top.

To quilt I used an Designs by JuJu, Edge-to-edge quilt design, Hearts and flowers, that I purchased. (fabric is more pink than the picture shows.)

The back was some other fabric I had on hand that I felt matched the charm pack, and I used a self-binding method. After I had quilted the quilt, I cut the back 2″ wider than the front, I trimmed the batting to 1″ wider than the top, and then folded the back fabric in half, and then in half to the front, then stitched with my Juki sewing machine.  It is so much easier to do this type of binding, than to cut and sew, then fold, then sew strips of fabric to bind the quilt.

Here is the full back with all the quilting done. (The sun was shinning, so you could see the front design when I took the picture).

This quilt was quick and easy to make, and I loved how it turned out.

Show me some of your Disappearing 9-patch baby quilts.
