Day 8 – Donating

At the Houston Quilt festival there was a new non-profit Social Justice Sewing Academy .  It was founded by Sara Trail in 2017.  We had a chance to talk about her non-profit at the show, and she was very excited to show some of the quilts that the youth had made.   The idea is community based  where youth can create art that engages and educates their communities.

They create quilts with issues that they are dealing with. Like gun violence, gender discrimination, gun violence and more. They are able to tell their stories thru the quilts they make.  Each of the quilts were unique in their own way, with a message conveyed thru a quilt.

They youth make their quilts, and they are displayed and shown across the country for a length of time before they can take them home.

If you would like to hear a great podcast by Elizabeth Townsend Gard of Just Wanna Quilt, you can find out a lot more.

They would love to receive fabric or sewing supplies.  Just stop by their website at http://www.sjsacademy.com/for more information.

Until tomorrow…
