Strip 2 – Roof
Pieces
– all 4″ pieces of Sky, Roof and School house
– Roof 3 1/2″ x 3 1/2″
Using 4″ squares
Draw a line from corner to corner
Making HST (Half Square triangles)
- Method A
- Cut each of the 4″ squares in half (Diagonally along line)
- Then sew triangles …
- Sky to Roof
- Roof to School house
- School house to Sky
- Method B
- Sew pieces together
- Place Sky (Blue) to Roof (Black) piece, and sew down 1/4″ from center on one side (I drew the ¼” seams on both sides of center line.)
- Sew pieces together
- Open up the piece – Make sure you have the side that is stitched to your left, and the roof on the right side.
- Place the School house (pink) piece on the the unsewn side of the Roof (black) – Three of the corners should match, and you should see the Sky piece out the fourth corner.
- Sew 1/4″ seam on the side towards the roof piece (see back side, not only one side will you sew.
- Open up. Match the Sky (blue) piece to the School house (pink), sew 1/4″ seam on the unsewn side.
Note picture below shows both sides sew, the left was stitched to the Roof and right was stitched to the Sky.
- After you have sewn the three pieces together, with only three stitch lines, you will have a three sided piece.
- Next carefully using your scissors, placed inside the center, cut down the center of the seams, cutting only one layer of fabric at a time. (picture shows one seam cut).
- After carefully cutting, you will have three HST.
Now that you have three HST cut, make sure to square-up each HST to be 3 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ using method you prefer. (You can check our our January 2019 BOM for methods to square-up HST.)

When you quilt the house, you can add a door knob to the school house door. You could add some flowers at the bottom, or something in the window.
