Accuquilt – Irish Chain Blog Hop

The May 2025 Island Batik Challenge is a blog hop partnered with AccuQuilt! We received  the GO! Irish Chain as the die for the May Blog Hop challenge.

In my January unboxing video, we had a “Surprise” fabric package. This fabric was intended for this May challenge.

The fabric that I was received is Jabberwocky,  by Carol Moellers Designs

I received half yard of the 20 different fabrics in the collection.  I received 2-yards of a dark and light fabric.

This fabric is so bright and cheery, I couldn’t wait to get started with the quilt.  I decided to use A Naturally Neutral Baby Powder for a light coordinating fabric.

The fabric and batting were given to me free from Island Batik and its partners. These include Hobbs BattingAurifil ThreadOliso Iron, Accuquilt and Schmetz Needles. This is part of my role as a Island Batik Ambassador.

There are four pieces on the BOB (Block on a Board).

I used Baby Powder for pieces C & D.    I cut the fabric into strips of 2 1/2″. I folded it back and forth to cut multiple pieces at a time.

I used the Jabberwocky fabric for pieces A & B.  I cut three pieces 2 1/2″ x 5″ for pieces B.  I selected 12 fabrics for the centers of the blocks and 4 1/2″ for piece A.

Using the Accuquilt Go!, I cut all the pieces I needed for the quilt. There will be 12 blocks.  I then sorted the Jabberwocky fabrics into different sets, so each would have 8 squares each.

I laid out each block, to see how the Jabberwocky fabric would look.

I assembled all of the blocks.   Sewing the middle 9 pieces together, and then sewing the final pieces together.

I used my Oliso Mini Iron to press the seams. This iron is so easy to use, and great for smaller seams.

I laid out the pieces for the quilt and decided that I want my blocks to be a little larger.  So, I added a sashing between and around the blocks. Using the extra squares that I had cut to extend the lines.

Adding a single sashing between the blocks, it gives a 5-point block.  I liked that this gave a mini 9-patch and a large 9-patch look in the top.

Added a 2 1/2″ strip of the Jabber Loops – Neutral fabric for the first border.

Then added a 3 1/2″ strip of the Jabber Blob – Pink for the second border.

Sewing this quilt top together would not be possible without the great needles from Schmetz Needles

To finish the quilt, I used Hobb’s batting 80/20.

As well as Aurifil Thread color 2000.  This thread blends well with the darker fabric, as well as with the Baby Powder background fabric.

I quilted using my Juki Longarm, using a design I got from Quilting Pantographs, called Coral Stipple.  This design matched some of the designs of the fabric, and matches this fabric line.

The quilt finished at 47″ x 59″.

If you liked my quilt, make sure to check out Suzy Webster. She is from Websterquilt. She used the same Fabric Line, Jabberwocky.

Then check out the other Island Batik Ambassador’s and their Irish Chain Quilts!
