November 2025 Island Batik Ambassador Timeless Traditions Blog Hop – Week 3

For the November 2025 Island Batik Ambassador Timeless Traditions Blog Hop. Ambassadors were to craft a quilt using at least five traditional quilt blocks. We were to showcase the lively Summer 2025 Collection that we received. I received the Paisley Pop collection. This collection, curated by Kathy Engle for Megan Best of Bestquilter, is set to arrive in stores in November 2025.

The fabric and batting were given to me free from Island Batik and its partners. These include Hobbs Batting, Aurifil Thread, Oliso Iron, Studio 180 Designs. and Schmetz Needles. This is part of my role as a Island Batik Ambassador.
The rules required the use of at least five traditional quilt blocks from a choice of favorites. This ensured each quilt featured a blend of classic design and contemporary flair.
- Four Patch Quilt Block: A simple block made up of four equal squares arranged in a two-by-two grid.
- Nine Patch Quilt Block: Composed of nine equal squares arranged in a three-by-three grid.
- Half Square Triangle Block: A square divided diagonally into two triangles, typically with contrasting fabrics.
- Quarter Square Triangle Block: A square divided into four triangles, created by cutting a square twice diagonally.
- Friendship Star Block: Features a central square surrounded by triangles that form a star shape.
- Flying Geese Quilt Block: Consists of a large triangle flanked by two smaller triangles, forming a pointed “goose” shape.
- Variable Star Quilt Block: It features a star block with a central square. The points are made from triangles. Often, varied fabrics are used for the star points.
- Ohio Star Quilt Block: Features a central square, surrounded by quarter square triangles forming a star pattern.
- Nine Patch Chain Quilt Block: This design alternates nine patch blocks with plain squares or other blocks. It creates a “chain” effect across the quilt.
- Pinwheel Mosaic Quilt Block: Four or more triangles arranged to form a pinwheel shape, creating a sense of motion.
I used Electric Quilt 8 (EQ8) to experiment with various arrangements and colorways. I ultimately selected six blocks for my quilt.
The Blocks I selected for my quilt.
1) Nine-Patch

2) Nine-Patch Chain (2 variations)

3) Friendship Star

4) Flying Geese (2 Color sets)

5) Variable Star

6) Ohio Star

These blocks were thoughtfully integrated into my design, resulting in the creation of my quilt, “Daydreams.”
I used several Studio 180 Designs rulers to complete these blocks. Including Tucker Trimmer I, Winged Clipper II, and Quarter-inch Ruler. These rulers are great for working with traditional blocks.
Bringing the vibrant hues and whimsical prints of Paisley Pop to life within “Daydreams” was a truly joyful endeavor. The quilt was conceived as a celebration of creativity. It embodies happiness. It is ideal for quilters seeking to infuse their projects with playfulness and charm.
To further enrich the design, I crafted two distinct color variations of the Flying Geese block. Each variation lends its own personality to the composition. Additionally, I explored two different layouts for the Nine-Patch Chain block, adding movement and visual interest to the final piece.
I used the Blue Floral Paisley for a 1″ border, and the Teal Aqua Dot Swirl for a 3″ border.

For the quilt, I used Hobbs Cotton Batting and Aurifil Turquoise Foam (4645) from the Jade Vine Color Builder set.

I love quilting with variegated thread. The Aurifil Turquoise Foam variegated thread blended well with the fabrics.

I quilted on my Juki Longarm using the Paisley Scrolls design from Quilting Pantographs.

The completed quilt “Daydreams” measures 56 inches by 74 inches. It offers a generous canvas for its exuberant colors.
