Sunset Batik Butterfly Quilt

For the 2025 Final Island Batik Ambassador challenge is a fun one.  We get to make anything we want; it is our choice.  Sometimes I think this is a harder challenge than some of the other ones, because there are no guidelines.

I decided to use a package of 10” squares. They are from the Spring 2025, Sunset Batik Collection, by Deb Tucker’s Studio 180 Design.

The fabric and batting were given to me free from Island Batik and its partners. These include Hobbs BattingAurifil ThreadOliso Iron. and Schmetz Needles. This is part of my role as an Island Batik Ambassador.

I had purchased GO! Butterfly-Pieced-9″ Finished Die last year, and I decided this would be design that I would use.   I used Electric Quilt 8 (EQ8) to help me decide how I wanted to cut the fabrics.  I decided to use a Island Batik Black fabric to help the Sunset fabric’s shine in the quilt.

I cut out all the pieces for the blocks at once, so I could chain piece the pieces.

In August, I used this die to create a wall hanging for my office. I really liked it. So, I decided I wanted to make a quilt with the patterns.

After cutting out all of the pieces, I decided that I wanted the butterfly’s to be two different colors.  So set all the fabrics out, to match how I wanted them to match.

I created sets for each butterfly.

Here are all the blocks on the design wall.

I decided that to add a ½” strip of fabric between the butterfly’s to help separate.

I added a 1” strip of black fabric around the outside.

To finish the quilt, I used Hobbs Black Cotton Batting, quilting with Aurifil Black Thread.

I used my Juki Longarm to quilt, using a design that I received from Quilting Pantographs, called Butterfly Loops.

My quilt finished at 60” x 70”

I hope you have enjoyed all my quilts and projects that I created this year.  This was my fourth year as an Island Batik Ambassador!
