2024 Island Batik Unboxing Video

I’m happy to say that I am a 2024 Island Batik Ambassador.  This is my third year.

Each January we receive a box of goodies from Island Batik and their sponsors.  These items are sent to me free of charge to me for role as an Island Batik Ambassador.

Usually we hear “Christmas in July” or “Christmas in December”, but it was like Christmas in January.  It really felt like Christmas, because in Texas Christmas can be warm and nice outside, but when my package arrived, we were experiencing extreme cold (for us at least), there were what looked like snow, but probably was tiny ice balls.    It looked and felt like snow, and it was so cold, down close to single digits for several days.

Here is my Unboxing Video.

Unboxing Video January 2024

Items received in the box.

Tucker Trimmer I – from Studio 180 designs.  A ruler to create perfectly sewn units every time, by squaring up from 1″ to 6″, 11 different sizes.

Quilter’s Magic Wand – I missed this in the video, it is a 1/2″ x 12″ ruler.  It is a light blue and makes it easy to mark 1/4″ seams when working.  I received one my first year and used it when making the Lone Star quilt.  You can use to mark seams on a Half Square triangle, on the diagonal, for sewing lines to create 2-at-a-time, or even the 8-at-a-time.  It is small, and I have a tendency to misplace when working, so having two will be great!

Schmetz Needles – I received 3 packages of Schmetz Needles, 1) Piecing & Quilting Needles, Vinyl Needles and Costume Pack.  In addition, I received a wonderful luggage tag, that has a Needle Color Code Chart and what size needs for each different fabric you are sewing.  I received their ABC Pocket Guide as well, that helps find the correct needle.

If you are interested in receiving the Schmetz ABC Pocket Guide, please comment on this blog, and I will pick a random winner to mail it to.

Prisms – 2 1/2″ strips and 2 yards of light/neutral and 2 yards of new Dark foundation fabric that coordinates with this new Winter 2023 Precut.

Grey, White and Black – 4-yard cut bundle.  These are great for finishing up a quilt top or for binding or backs.

Whip Cream – 6 yards of neutral fabric, another fabric for finishing a quilt top, bindings or backs.  This neutral fabric will work great with most Island Batik Fabrics.

Playful Purple – 2 1/2″ strips, 40 pieces – 20 fabric designs.  I love this purple, and the picture doesn’t do it justice.    I will use Grey, White, black or Whip Cream with these strips to create a quilt top.

Fairy Floss – 10″ squares, with 2 yards of dark and 2 yards of neutral coordinating fabrics. The Fairy Floss is part of the Fall 2023 precuts.

Surprise – each box we get a “Surprise” package, that is wrapped up, and will be reveled in a Blog Hop.  This one will be shown in May 2024.

There are 20 fabrics, each 1/2-yard cut, and two coordinating fabrics, 2 yards Dark, and 2 yards Light.  It is called Oasis, by Kathy Engle for Best Quilter.  From the Winter ’23 collection and will ship to shops in May.

Stash Builders – 5″ strips, 2.8 yards.  There are all different colors in these rolls, and can be used to supplement other fabric lines, or even make a great quilt, when you need a little something else.

Sides of Stash Builder Sets

Foundation Pack – 1/2-yard cut of 12 fabrics from the Foundation lines.  These are always available, and also like the Stash Builders great to use with other lines. These coordinate with the Fall & Winter ’23 bundles.

You can order these by the yard, so you can get what you need to finish that quilt.

Glorious Greens – 10″ stack of Green fabrics.  I made a quilt with these fabrics and they looked great with the Grey fabric.

Squiggles, Lines & Dots, by Studio 180 designs. Fall 2023 half yard cut bundles, with 2 yards of light neutral and 2 yards of Dark fabric that coordinate with the fabric.  This will be used in our February Blog Hop.  My blog will be posted later in February with this fabric.

Squiggles, Lines & Dots – fabric

Hobbs Tuscany Collection – Cotton Wool Blend batting, Throw size.  This is a blend of Fine Cotton and Superwashed Wool, breathes naturally, and has a nice drape.  You can quilt as far away as 4″ without any issues.

Hobbs Tuscany Collection – 100% Wool batting, throw size.  This batting doesn’t hold creases and is ideal for Show Quilts.  You can quilt as far away as 4″ without any issues.

Oliso Smart Iron – a new sponsor this year is the Oliso Smart Iron.  It is the only iron that automatically lifts and lowers with your touch.  This iron has an extra long 12′ 360 degree pivot cord.  I have started using this iron, and it is so great to not have to worry if I am close enough to the wall, or to have to move the iron around to untangle the cord.

Funky Friends – one additional item was sent to us via email, a pattern from Funky Friends.  This will be our challenge for April, and I can’t wait to show you the neat pattern and my project.   If you haven’t tried their patterns, give them a look, they are so easy to create, and some work with Cotton, and some need a more stretchy fabric.

All of these items were sent to me by Island Batik and its sponsors, Hobbs Batting, Studio 180 designs, Funky Friends, Oliso Smart Irons, and Schmetz needles

What is your favorite from this year’s Box?  I love everything, but so excited to get working with our new sponsor this year!
