Inquiring Quilting is releasing her first Signature collection with Island Batik fabric, and I am participating in her Reflection Blog Hop from May 1st to May 14th, 2024. Then immediately following the blog hop there will be an Instagram Loop from May 15th to May 17th! Where those participating will have some giveaways! Keep reading for my free giveaway.
The materials used in the making of this quilt were provided to me free by Island Batik and their industry partners, Oliso iron, Schmetz Needles, and Hobbs Batting.
Look at these beautiful fabrics in the Reflections Signature Collection by Kathy Engle, for Jennifer Fulton of Inquiring Quilter!

I was so excited to get started on this project, and wanted to do something simple that would highlight this bright and pretty fabric.
Fabric Used:
8″ strip of all 20 fabrics
1 yard of one of the fabrics for the binding
3 yards of coordinating fabric- Glaze.

Cut the 8″ strips into 2 1/2″ strips of fabric.

Then cut a 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ square from the remaining fabric strips for a total of 32 squares.

Cut the coordaining fabric into 18 strips 2 1/2″ by width of fabric (WOF) and four 6″ x WOF. I cut two 2 1/2″ x strips into Thirty-two 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ squares.
Love how the fabrics looked together.

I added the Glaze coordinating fabric strips, and love how they help accent the beautiful fabric.

Best Practice is to use some freezer paper or stickers, and label the top of your strips, keeping them in order when you sew. Freezer paper lets you iron to the fabric, and for the most part they stay put, and then you can just peel away when done.

I did have a plan for the layout, but unfortunately it didn’t work as I planned, but I still love how it looks. At the upper and lower points of the small squares, were supposed to be without a square, and it moved to the bottom, but it didn’t quite work out the way I had planned. You can use a random layout or in a pattern.
Piecing this quilt took a lot of pressing of seams, and I love the Oliso iron, it made pressing the seams so quick and easy, and less up and down with the iron, just press, let go, and up it pops. I wish I had got this iron years ago. (My old Iron is jealous, and is watching me while it is collecting dust.)

I used some Hobbs batting that I had received in my role as an Island Batik Ambassador. I love this batting it is so easy to use and makes the quilt warm, but not too heavy. It unfolds from the roll and lays out flat for loading into my longarm.

I quilted using my Juki longarm, with a design that I received from Quilting Pantographs, called Garden Flowers. Quilting Pantographs has a great rewards program, and you can earn points to receive free designs. This Pantograph was purchased with those rewards points.

I quilted the top with Aurifil thread, number 2830, a Jade thread from the Jade Vine collection I purchased from Missouri Star Quilt Company. It blends in well with the Reflections fabric, and matches the green in the Glaze Fabric.

Here is my completed quilt. (Yes, I know that strip just stands out, it is a rebellious strip.)

As part of this Blog Hop, I am offering a free PDF pattern for this quilt, thru the end of the Blog Hop, May 14, 2024! Download here free!
