Its All Up to You!

The Island Batik March Challenge is “It’s All up to You”.  We get to choose the project that we want to make.

I’ve decided to make two projects this month.  This is the first one.   I decided to use some of the fabric that I received from Island Batik called Let it Snow!  A winter 2022 Precut and coordinating fabric.

The fabric contains 2 1/2″ strips, 40 different, 20 different designs.  I also received two yards of coordinating Light and Dark fabric.

The fabric, and batting were given to me free from Island Batik and its partners,  Hobbs Batting, Aurifil Thread and Schmetz Needles, as my role as a 2024 Island Batik Ambassador.

In Texas, we don’t normally get snow, but I do like to see it occasionally.   When I went to Kansas City for Thanksgiving, we were lucky and received around 3″ of snow, right before we headed back to Texas. It was so pretty.  So I wanted to create a quilt using the Let it Snow fabric line, to give me a little bit of the Snow for the season.

I used the pattern for Coin Quilt.  Alternating between 8 1/2″ and 2 1/2″ strips of fabric, with 2 1/2″ strips of the light coordinating fabric between.

I got so excited making the quilt, I forgot to take pictures.

I added 2 1/2″ strip of the light coordinating fabric around the outside of the quilt for a small border.  Then added a 3 1/2″border of the Dark Coordinating fabric.

I used Hobbs Premium 100% Wool Batting for the quilt. The Wool batting is very light weight, and breathes naturally, and is great for all climates, even the hot and humid Texas weather.

I quilted the top on my Juki Longarm, with Aurifil Thread, variegated blue (3772), with a design from Quilting Pantographs, called Silly Stipple.   It reminded me of the fun of playing in snow and leaving silly swirls around the yard.

I finished the quilt with the dark coordinating fabric for the binding. The Quilt finished at 60″ x 90″.  It was a little longer than I normally do, but wanted to use all the strips, and make it long enough to stay warm.

Here is my Finished Let is Snow Quilt.
